I hope this message finds you well. My name is Robert Samuel White (Sam), and I was recently encouraged to apply for a volunteer host position within Oregon State Parks by Matt, a host at Cape Blanco, and Jerry, a park ranger I’ve come to know
at both Cape Blanco and Humbug Mountain State Parks. Both have spoken positively about my time here and expressed their willingness to vouch for me as a strong candidate.

Over the past two months, I’ve been living and engaging deeply with the southern Oregon coast, where I feel a profound sense of belonging. After a month-long journey from Kentucky, I arrived here and knew almost immediately I was “home.” I’ve
been exploring this landscape—its lighthouses, rugged beaches, and trails—with reverence and a strong desire to contribute meaningfully to its preservation and maintenance. I’m committed to staying along the 101 for the long term and would be honored to support
Oregon’s State Parks through volunteer service.

The Yurt/Cabin Host position at Umpqua Lighthouse State Park aligns perfectly with my skills, strengths, and current way of life. I am deeply organized, hardworking, and accustomed to the physical tasks required, such as cleaning, light landscaping,
and general maintenance. I also value providing excellent visitor experiences and creating welcoming, well-kept spaces for all who come to enjoy these parks. I am fully capable of meeting the role’s requirements and bring with me not only practical skills
but a personal connection to the parks I would serve.
